NYC: KITCHEN FIT FOR A FAMILY OF 8

A kitchen and pantry are combined to form one elegant space that balances versatility with durability. With eight living at home and a love of entertaining at home, this New York family needs a high performance, flexible kitchen in which many people can cook simultaneously without encroaching on each other's space. The innovative wall cabinetry design is based on the optimum thickness for glasses, food products, and spices, and set against the otherwise clean lines of the stainless steel.

CHICAGO: HISTORIC HOME GETS MODERN RENOVATION

Wheeler Kearns in Chicago recently completed a dramatic overhaul of an 1870s Victorian house located in a landmark district of the city. Although exterior changes were restricted by landmark guidelines, the interior underwent a complete gut renovation. The architects brought light and air into the newly opened space, creating a central, two-story volume containing the kitchen and baths, lit by a series of skylights. Large French doors at the south-facing rear extend the living space into the garden and provide natural light and views deep within the house. Photography by Monica Rosello.
